Matthew T. Jenkins, a Chicago personal injury lawyer at Corboy & Demetrio, has become the President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Disability & Elder Law.

February 20, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ ? Corboy & Demetrio attorney Matthew T. Jenkins has become President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL), which provides legal services to elderly and low-income residents in Chicago and outlying Cook County, Illinois.

?I?m excited to take this leadership position with CDEL in its effort to help low-income residents get legal services they desperately need and deserve in these dire economic times.? Matthew T. Jenkins said.

At age 29, Jenkins becomes the youngest board president the Chicago-based non-profit agency has had. Jenkins, named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in both 2011 and 2012 because of his accomplishments as a personal injury lawyer, brings a tremendous amount of energy to CDEL.

CDEL?s mission is to provide free legal services to Cook County low-income seniors and disabled persons and to foster a pro bono culture within the Cook County legal community. It relies largely on volunteer attorneys to represent eligible clients in a broad range of civil legal matters, including landlord-tenant, consumer fraud and bankruptcy.

Jenkins, a trial lawyer at the Chicago personal injury law firm of Corboy & Demetrio since 2008, practices in the areas of medical malpractice and personal injury law, including cases arising from automobile collisions, construction negligence, premises liability and product liability. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Jenkins received his Juris Doctorate degree in 2007 from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was recognized for both his academic achievements and his commitment to public service. In 2005, the law school honored Matt?s personal dedication to public service by naming him a Public Interest Law Initiative Scholar.

Matt is an active member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, where he currently serves as Co-Chairman of its Civil Rights and Criminal Law Committee and the Illinois State Bar Association where he is a member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee. Jenkins started and heads the Young Alumni Committee of the Alumni Board at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. Jenkins sits on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Bar Association?s Young Lawyer Section. In 2010, Jenkins was selected as the Illinois Pro Bono Attorney of the Month by Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) for the volunteer legal work he has done.
