The NHL Players' Association's vote to ratify the CBA ended at 8 a.m. today. The final step -- a mutual signing of a Memorandum of Understanding -- should come later today, at which point the league will hang an 'open' sign in its window. The schedule will be released, players can be traded, free agents can be signed, training camp rosters and schedules can be finalized, etc.
The Blue Jackets will have 25 players in camp, The Dispatch has learned. Right winger Cam Atkinson and defenseman John Moore were recalled on Friday, then embarked on a Cannonball Run of sorts to drive from Springfield, Mass., to Columbus. At last check, Moore had a 90 minute lead.
Late Friday, the Blue Jackets recalled four others from Springfield: left winger Matt Calvert, center Ryan Johansen, and defensemen Tim Erixon and David Savard. The Jackets also recalled center Boone Jenner from his junior club in Oshawa, Ont.
This camp is not going to work like any other camp since the Blue Jackets have existed. There's a chance more players could be recalled as camp moves along, based on injuries or what kind of practice Todd Richards and his staff want to run. The short list there would appear to be dynamic winger Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, center Nick Drazenovic and defenseman Nick Holden.
Here's what the roster, listed alphabetically, will look like when camp dawns, hopefully on-ice at noon on Sunday:
