FOR those who have always wished to get their hands on an iPhone that can run Google?s Android operating system, here is some bit of great news.
Electronics maker IGB Electronica SA of Brazil has reported an iPhone smart-phone that can run on the Android operating system under IGB?s Gradiente brand.
IGB Electronica announced that it would start selling its smart-phone lineups in Brazil carrying the brand iPhone: the first version will be named ?iPhone Neo One??, IGB bared in a securities filing.
Although many will view such move as a clear infringement of trademark, but the fact is that the Brazilian electronics maker, which was established just recently after the overhaul of Gradiente Electronica SA, had applied for the rights to use the ?iPhone? cognomen in almost 12 years ago, while Apple Inc brains Steve Jobs developed the company?s first smart-phone carrying the ?iPhone? label in 2007.
This means that IGB applied many years prior to the introduction of the first iPhone by Apple Inc; thus the IGB Electronica insists that it has full and exclusive local rights to market and sell a device under the iPhone label. The company was actually able to secure rights to the ?iPhone? name from a local patents regulator back in 2008.
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant Apple Inc has also faced similar obstacles in the past. Although the Brazilian electronics company has named its device ?iPhone?, in reality the ?iphone Neo One? is neither a clone of the iPhone nor does it have any resemblance, in any way, with Apple?s iPhone.
The iPhone Neo One has a dual SIM, runs on the Android 2.3.4 operating system and has a 3.7-inch touch-screen display, including a 5-megapixel camera.
